Q: I was wondering if the Hunter Perma Life Microban Air Purifer 30793 produces harmful ozone? If so, how much, and what is safe ozone levels?
A; As far as I can tell from the technology it has I don't see any problem in it creating Ozone. I haven't tested one myself but the technology is:
HEPA - hepa is a cloth filter which does not create ozone
Ionizer - because this is negative ions, and not negative and positive ions (as found in the washable grid or washable plate type of air purifiers) it is not only safe but good for your health. It's the Ionizers that use the plates (like Oreck) which can sometimes creates ozone.
Safe levels - The threshold level at which nasal and throat irritation will result appears to be about 0.300 ppm. Of course room size matters, and some level of ozone is found coming from electrical applianes all the time.
Ozone is found produced in nature (lightning being one example). It's just high levels that cause problems.
